The Cosmos HI Large Extragalactic Survey (CHILES) is a 1000h survey being carried out on the Jansky Very Large Array in Socorro, New Mexico. This project is expected to yield the most distant detections of HI in emission ever made, and forms a vital pathfinder survey for observations in the Square Kilometre Array era. Initial processing of data from the telescope is carried out by the northern hemisphere team, with final transformation of the data into image cubes lead by the team here in Perth.
The Deep Extragalactic VIsible Legacy Survey (DEVILS) aims to deliver ~58k spectroscopic redshift 0.3<z<1.0 using the Anglo-Australian Telescope. The fields to be targeted are COSMOS, ECDFS and XMM-LSS, rich in multiwavelength data, including future MeerKAT HI surveys.
DINGO is a deep HI survey on ASKAP, aiming to understand the evolution of HI gas over the past 4 billion years. Observations are proposed of the GAMA survey regions in a two-tiered strategy extending from redshift zero to ~0.4, providing a legacy dataset spanning cosmologically representative volumes.
Imaging Galaxies Intergalactic and Nearby Environment (IMAGINE) aims to carry out deep HI observations of 28 nearby galaxies with Australia's ATCA to detect diffuse gas in the outskirts of galaxies and better understand galaxies are fuelled.
The Galaxy And Mass Assembly survey (GAMA) is one of the most extensive spectroscopic and multi-wavelength imaging projects ever undertaken, spanning ~300k galaxies over nearly 300 square degrees down to a limiting magnitude of r<19.8. A selection of these fields are to be targeted by the DINGO HI survey on ASKAP.
The HI Parkes All-Sky Survey (HIPASS) surveyed the entire southern sky (declinations < +25) with the Parkes 64m radio telescope out to redshift z<0.04. Until the commissioning of ASKAP and the WALLABY survey, it remains the reference HI dataset in the southern sky. Image and catalogue data are all now publicly available.
MeerKAT Observations of Nearby Galactic Objects - Observing Southern Emitters (MHONGOOSE) is a 1650h survey of 30 nearby galaxies on the MeerKAT telescope in South Africa. This will extended the limits in both resolution and column density sensitivity for these galaxies, giving new insight into the processes fuelling galaxies and star formation.
The Wide Area Vista Extragalactic Survey (WAVES) will build on the legacy of GAMA, taking the next steps out in size and redshift with a 2 million galaxy spectroscopic redshift survey on the VISTA telescope.
Looking at the Distant Universe with the MeerKAT Array (LADUMA) is a single pointing deep HI survey in Chandra Deep Field South.
WALLABY is a new all-sky survey on ASKAP, surveying the entire southern sky for HI emission. Around 500,000 galaxies are expected to be detected.
